Additional Information
Depicting an integral system aboard early-modern powered ships, as well as the fateful voyage of the historic Titanic, these brass keyrings display the Titanic’s engine telegraph. Used aboard ships from the late 19th and early 20th centuries these devices were used to convey orders between the bridge and the engine room. Two duplicate systems were in place, with a wheel showing varying speeds and a throttle system to indicate the desired speed. Shown in great detail on these nautical keychains this system was critical to ships traveling through dangerous seas. The pilot would adjust his telegraph to the desired speed, and in the engine room a bell would ring to indicate an order from above. With urgent orders, such as the one on that fateful day in 1912, the handle is moved three times, ringing the bell three times, and alarming the engineers to work quickly. With less than a minute between sighting and striking the deadly iceberg, however, the crew was unable to maneuver the ship and the tragedy we all know ensued. Each of these brass keyrings is a small historic token, perfect for Titanic enthusiasts as well as engineers and former sailors alike. Although the fate of the Titanic was sealed in that brief instant, the history of the ship will live on forever, as well as the lessons that were learned. Place your keys on one of the brass keyrings, remember those who lost their live that day, and with one of these Titanic engine telegraph brass keychains as a talisman, may you always have a safe journey.
